Brent is an accomplished and enthusiastic trumpet teacher working with aspiring high school students, college students, and professionals. 

Brent’s style as a teacher and clinician is to inspire and encourage students in an approachable manner. He is passionate about helping growing musicians reach their potential in the moment and over their lifetime.

Collegiate Teaching Experience

Brent has been Professor of Trumpet at the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point since 2007, served as department chair for eight years, and is director of jazz studies. He offers a weekly studio class, orchestral excerpt class, lead class, and improvisation class. Brent also developed and taught a course in musical entrepreneurship. In addition, he has taught jazz history and directed the jazz band for UWSP.

Brent is a frequent guest artist and clinician in both jazz and classical areas
Previous to taking his current position at UWSP, Brent was an adjunct professor at DePaul University, teaching jazz and classical trumpet and directing big bands and jazz combos. He also served as a visiting professor of applied trumpet at Lawrence University. 
Brent’s students have been accepted into graduate programs at Depaul University, University of Missouri Kansas City, Indiana University, the University of Colorado at Boulder, and cleveland Institute of Music, among others.​
