Brent Turney brings the trumpet to life with precision, musicality, and versatility.
Brent has performed all over the world in a wide range of musical genres as a classical soloist, orchestral performer, chamber musician, jazz improviser, and commercial trumpeter.
In addition to performances with a wide range of professional ensembles and artists around the country, Brent is an active soloist and regularly performs classical and jazz solo programs at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point where he is professor of trumpet and director of jazz studies.
Brent holds degrees in classical performance from Penn State University (BM), jazz studies from DePaul University (MM), and classical performance from DePaul University (Classical Performers Certificate). His primary teachers include John Daniel, Bob Lark, and John Hagstrom.
Professional Achievements
Along with his performing career, Brent is the founder and artistic director of the Central Wisconsin Jazz Ensemble, a professional 16-piece big band comprising the best performers in Central and Northern Wisconsin. They present three concerts per season and feature big band music, newly-composed works, and outstanding guest artists.
In 2013, Brent formed the Wisconsin Trumpet Guild and has hosted three highly successful state-wide conferences with engagement from collegiate-level teachers, students, and performers across the state. In 2018 he hosted Marc Geujon, solo trumpet with the Paris Opera, as the featured artist of the Wisconsin Trumpet Guild Conference.
